Two civil service employees from Springfield have been honored for exemplary work by Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Springfield. Both were recognized during the School’s employee recognition activities this spring.

B.J. Moore, IT technical support manager, SIU HealthCare, is the 2011 Civil Service employee of the year. He joined the SIU staff in 2006. His nominator wrote, “B.J. has always considered the client (IT users) first and does everything he can to take care of the individual and/or the clinic.” Moore received a master’s degree in computer science in 2004 from the University of Illinois at Springfield, where he had received a bachelor’s degree in political science and education. He and his wife, Rebecca, have two sons, Jacob and Josh, and live in Glenarm.

Mary Carter, health care administrator, SIU Department of Pediatrics, is the 2011 Civil Service supervisor of the year. She joined the SIU staff in 1992. Her nominator wrote, “Mary is the ‘hub of the wheel’ and gives 200 percent every day. She has an open door policy and is always doing little things to help boost everyone’s day.” Carter is a graduate of St. John's School of Nursing. She and her husband, Rick, have a son, Seth. They live in Pawnee.
