SIU Med School Sponsors Ethnic Heritage Day for German Culture
An Ethnic Heritage Day celebration featuring German culture will be held Tuesday, December 13, at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. The event will be held from noon to 1:00 p.m. in the Pearson Museum of the School’s main building at 801 N. Rutledge St., Springfield.
The program includes a presentation, “Everyday German Culture” by Anna Marie Fuhrig, Ph.D., of Jacksonville. Author of Stories of Americans Who Came from Germany: 400 Years of Germans in America, Fuhrig also has taught German at several central Illinois colleges. The Southeast High School’s German Club will sing Christmas carols.
There also will be cultural displays as well as tasting of German foods, some provided by members of the local chapter of DANK, the German American National Congress.
Ethnic Heritage Day celebrations are held regularly at the medical school to share information about various ethnic cultures. The events are organized by SIU’s Diversity, Multicultural and Minority Affairs office.
