SIU Med School Announces Honor Society Members

Fifteen new members have been inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Honor Medical Society at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Springfield. All 15 were inducted at the spring banquet for SIU’s Eta chapter.

Newly elected seniors from the Class of 2012 are Eliza Davis, daughter of Drew and Katie Davis of Springfield; Nathan William Kugler, son of John and Becky Kugler of Peoria; Denver M. Lough, son of Denver and Ann Lough of Los Altos, Calif.; Kristina Ann Lynch, daughter of Linda Flynn of Chatham; Jessica Sampias, daughter of Bill and Sandy Sampias of Chatham; Chris Stephenson, son of Ric and Vonda Stephenson of Edwardsville and Pat and Karen Gauen of Highland; and Stephanie Suprenant, daughter of Kim Stuth of Bourbonnais.

Student members from the Class of 2013 are Anton Grasch, son of Anthony and Holly Grasch of Springfield; Marshall Holland, son of Todd and Nancy Holland of Mendota; Benjamin Mathis, son of David and Darby Mathis of Pinckneyville; and Thomas Selby, son of David and Kathe Selby of Dundas.

Resident physicians from SIU training programs selected were Dr. Kelli Webb, a plastic surgery resident from Dahlgren and 2008 graduate of SIU, and Dr. Adam Reid, a surgery resident from Carlinville and a 2007 graduate from SIU. 

Dr. Jan Rakinic, associate professor of surgery at SIU, was elected an honorary faculty member. Dr. Stacy Sattovia, assistant professor of internal medicine and 2002 graduate of SIU, was elected an alumni member.  

The only national honor medical society in the world, AOA recognizes and works to perpetuate excellence in the medical professions. Election to AOA is based on integrity, leadership, compassion, fairness and scholastic excellence.
