Simmons Cancer Institute Offers Scarf Tying Class
A “Tying, Tea, Talk and Touch” class will be held from 1:30 - 2:30 p.m. on Monday, February 13 at Simmons Cancer Institute (SCI) at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine, 315 W. Carpenter St. in Springfield.
Melanie Eades, a licensed cosmetologist, will teach the class for women who are dealing with any type of hair loss and want to learn creative ways to tie headscarves. “We will have practice scarves available for participants,” said Ellen Brotzman-Desart, education coordinator for the Side-by-Side Wellness Center at SCI. “However, we encourage women to bring their own scarves, scrunchies and even a friend to help.”
The class is free and open to cancer patients regardless of where they are being treated. Registration is available by calling 217-545-0798 weekdays, or email firstname.lastname@example.org. The Side-by-Side Wellness Center at Simmons Cancer Institute helps patients manage the physical and psychological effects of living with cancer through a variety of free classes, workshops and support groups. SCI also provides individual counseling services for patients, their families and caregivers.
The mission of Simmons Cancer Institute at SIU is to serve the people of central and southern Illinois by addressing their present and future cancer needs through education, research, patient care and community service. Its website is www.siumed.edu/cancer.
