SIU Med School Announces Templeton Scholarship

Jared Henrichs, a first-year medical student, has received a monetary award from the J.S. Templeton, M.D., Memorial Scholarship at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine.  The award is given annually to a student from Perry County or a southern Illinois rural community, who is currently enrolled at SIU School of Medicine.

Henrichs is the son of Carl and Mona Henrichs of Breese.  He is a graduate of Mater Dei High School (2007) and Southeast Missouri State University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in biomedical sciences (2011).

The Templeton Scholarship was established in 1993 by Harriss Malan of Carbondale and Jane Templeton Minton of DuQuoin, in memory of their uncle and father, Dr. James Scott Templeton.  Templeton was a general practitioner who practiced in the Pickneyville area for more than sixty years.  He also was a founder of Pickneyville Community Hospital.
