SIU to Offer Free Varicose Vein Screening

Vascular surgeons from Southern Illinois University School of Medicine will provide free varicose vein screening from 5-7 p.m., Monday, June 18, at the SIU Surgical Clinics Building, 421 N. 9th St, Springfield. Each attendee will receive a free screening and information about venous disease and treatment options.

“Approximately 25 million Americans are afflicted with varicose veins. That’s nearly twice the number of patients who suffer from coronary artery disease,” said Dr. Colleen Moore, assistant professor of vascular surgery and director of the SIU Vein Clinic. “These veins are often not only unsightly but can also be painful and cause swelling and itching. There are several effective courses of treatment available today, and insurance often covers it.”

Individuals are asked to register in advance by calling Annette in SIU’s Department of Surgery at 217-545-7133 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays. Parking is available in the lot north of the SIU Surgery Clinics building.
