SIU Med School Sponsors Hispanic-Latino Ethnic Heritage Day
An Ethnic Heritage Day celebration featuring Hispanic and Latino cultures will be held Tuesday, September 20, at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. The event will be held from noon to 1:00 p.m. in the Pearson Museum of the School’s main building at 801 N. Rutledge St., Springfield.
The program is a musical dance presentation, “Septiembre Latino,” by Julio Barrenzuela, which features highlights of the various Hispanic heritage celebrations in the U.S. and other countries. The dances symbolize the similarities and differences of the various Hispanic countries and cultures.
Cultural exhibits and artifacts will be displayed. Foods from Hispanic and Latino cultures also will be offered.
Ethnic Heritage Day celebrations are held regularly at the medical school to share information about various ethnic cultures. The events are organized by SIU’s Diversity, Multicultural and Minority Affairs office.
