SIU Med School Sponsors Native American Ethnic Heritage Day

An Ethnic Heritage Day celebration featuring Native American culture will be held Tuesday, August 16, at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine.  The event will be held noon to 1 p.m. in the Pearson Museum of the School’s main building at 801 N. Rutledge St., Springfield.

The program includes a talk by Joyce Surbeck-Harris, Ph.D., who will discuss Native American healing practices.  There also will be cultural displays and artifacts as well as tasting of Native American foods.

Ethnic Heritage Day celebrations are held regularly to share information about various ethnic cultures.  The events are organized by the SIU Diversity, Multicultural and Minority Affairs office.
