SIU HealthCare Names Chief Medical Officer

Harald Lausen, D.O., has been named Chief Medical Officer (CMO) for SIU HealthCare at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Springfield.

As CMO, Lausen is involved with regulatory, accreditation, safety, clinical informatics and compliance issues, as well as facilitating quality improvement, practice standards for the clinical operations and patient safety and satisfaction processes across the practice for SIU HealthCare, the medical school’s group practice. He will also serve as a liaison to integrate education in clinical settings for medical students, resident physicians and other learners.

Lausen, an associate professor, joined SIU in 2007. Previously, Lausen was in private practice in Springfield (2003-07) and was a part-time faculty member at SIU.

He completed the family medicine residency at SIU-Springfield (2003). He earned his doctor of osteopathic medicine degree from Midwestern University, Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine (2000) and his master’s and bachelor’s degrees in biology, both at the University of Illinois at Springfield (1997, 1993).

Lausen is board certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians. His memberships include the American College of Physician Executives, American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians, American Osteopathic Association, Association of Osteopathic Directors and Medical Educators, and the Society for Teachers of Family Medicine.

A native of Springfield, Lausen has two children.
