June 26 - SIU Surgeon Receives First Sumner Endowed Chair Award -- Dr. Kim Hodgson, professor and chair of the vascular division, has been named recipient of the David S. Sumner, M.D. Endowed Chair in Vascular and Endovascular Surgery.
June 24 - Med School Awarded National Honor -- The Department of Family and Community Medicine received a "Top TenAward" from the American Academy of Family Physicians.
June 18 - Two Receive Honors -- Two faculty members from the psychiatry department receive national honors.
June 16 - Med School Receives Grant -- A research scientist at SIU School of Medicine in Springfield has been awarded a grant from the National Institute of Aging, a division of the National Institutes of Health.
June 15 -SIU and Springfield Schools Announce Joint Pilot Program -- A pilot program for high school students will begin to introduce students to the field of medicine.

June 5 - SIU Med School Announces Commencement Awards -- Honors and Awards were announced as part of the 35th commencement held in May in Springfield.

May 28 - SIU Med School Organizes Golf Scramble -- Annual charity golf scramble benefits the Camp COCO Children’s Cancer Fund at SIU School of Medicine in Springfield.
May 27 - SIU Med School Announces New Members to Honor Society -- Nine new members have been inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Honor Medical society.
May 22 - SCOPE 2009 is Published -- The sixteenth annual edition of SCOPE, the literary magazine of the School of Medicine, is published.
May 21 - SimmonsCooper Cancer Institute to Hold Fundraiser -- The SimmonsCooper Cancer Institute at SIU School of Medicine will hold its inaugural Butterfly Release in the Thomas Garden of Hope at the Institute.
May 18 - Annual Pearson Lecture Set -- The thirteenth annual Emmet F. Pearson Memorial Medical History Lecture at the Med School will be held June 10.
May 18 - Two From SIU Med School Receive Honors -- Two faculty members receive professional honors.
May 8 -- Murphysboro Health Clinic Receives Award -- The Murphysboro Health Clinic received a "Center of Excellence" award from the Med School.
May 6 - SIU Med School to Graduate 66 New Physicians -- Commencement for the 35th graduating class of SIU School of Medicine will be held at 2 p.m.. Saturday, May 16.
April 14 -- Four Receive Honors -- A faculty member and three adminstrators receive professional honors.
April 10 - Med School Offers Free Head and Neck Cancer Screenings -- Free head and neck cancer screenings in the SIU otolaryngology clinic (room 5B) on the fifth floor of St. John's Pavilion, 301 N. 8th Street, Springfield as part of National Oral Head and Neck Cancer Awareness Week.
April 9 - Med School Exhibits Art by Sangamon County Students -- More than 100 pieces of artwork created by Sangamon County elementary, middle and high school students is on display in May at SIU School of Medicine in Springfield.
April 8 - Med School Receives Cancer Institute Funding -- Supplemental funding was appropriated to permit the School of Medicine to open the new SimmonsCooper Cancer Institute facility this summer. (SCCI Exterior)

December 5 - Med School Awarded Accreditation -- The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology received accreditation for three years by the Ultrasound Practice Council of the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine.
