June 29 - 25th Camp COCO Set for July -- The 25th annual Camp COCO will host 130-plus campers with cancer and other blood disorders during its one-week session July 11 through 16.
June 28 - Diabetes Education Night Set -- Treating diabetes is the topic of a public education program presented by the endocrinology division at the School of Medicine.
June 24 - Carbondale Employee Honored -- SIU School of Medicine has honored a civil service employee from Carbondale.
June 23 - Endoscopy Ultrasonography Now Available -- A new procedure is now available from gastroenterologists at SIU School of Medicine in Springfield.
June 22 - Internships Begin at Cancer Institute -- Area students participate in Simmons Cancer Institute intern program.
June 18 - Pharmacology Awards Announced -- Three researchers receive awards from SIU department of pharmacology.
June 18 - Cancer Institute Holds Butterfly Release -- The Simmons Cancer Institute at SIU School of Medicine will hold its second Butterfly Release in the Thomas Garden of Hope at the Institute.
June 9 - Carbondale Physician Recognized as Mentor -- A surgeon from Carbondale is the Carbondale Mentor of the Year.
June 3 - Trainee Research Winners Announced -- Seventeen medical and graduate students and resident physicians received top awards in the 20th annual Trainee Research Symposium at SIU School of Medicine in Springfield.

May 19 - IDPH Awards Cancer Screening Grant -- The IDPH is teaming with SIU School of Medicine and Simmons Cancer Institute to provide outreach, education and screenings on colorectal cancer.
May 13 - Volunteers Needed For Cancer Building -- Volunteers are being recruited to serve as hosts in the new Simmons Cancer Institute at SIU School of Medicine in Springfield.

May 12 - Hertwick Scholarship Awarded -- A first-year medical student has received the Virginia J. Hertweck Memorial Endowment Scholarship at SIU School of Medicine.
May 11 - SCOPE Magazine Published -- The seventeenth annual edition of SCOPE, the literary magazine of the School of Medicine, is published.
May 5 - Sixty-Eight Physicians to Graduate -- Commencement for the 36th graduating class of SIU School of Medicine will be held at noon Saturday, May 22.
May 4 - Faculty Members Promoted -- Academic promotions are awarded to 10 faculty members at the medical school in Springfield and Carbondale.
May 3 - Women's Power Lunch Set -- The first Women’s Power Lunch Against Cancer, sponsored by Simmons Cancer Institute at SIU, will be held at the President Abraham Lincoln Hotel in Springfield.

April 20 - Car Seat Inspections Offered -- A free car seat inspection and health fair event, “Spring into Safety,” will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 4, at the Simmons Cancer Institute parking lot, corner of Carpenter and Rutledge Streets, Springfield.
April 20 - Alumni Board Members Elected -- Officers and four new board members have been named to SIU School of Medicine’s Alumni Society Board of Governors.
April 14 - Sangamon Students Exhibit Art -- Ninety pieces of artwork created by Sangamon County elementary, middle and high school students is on display in May at SIU School of Medicine in Springfield.

March 25 - Borkon Scholarship Awarded -- A first-year medical student has received the Dr. Eli and Claire Borkon Scholarship at SIU School of Medicine.
March 18 - SIU Seniors and Residency Programs Get Match News -- Senior medical students learned their matches to postgraduate training programs.
March 16 - Women Physicians Featured in Exhibit -- Women physicians are the focus of a traveling exhibit opening at SIU School of Medicine March 31 – May 12 in the SIU medical library (fourth floor), 801 N. Rutledge St., Springfield.
March 15 - Open Access Offered For Colon Cancer Screenings -- Five physicians in SIU’s gastroenterology division are providing open accress screenings to encourage more people to be checked for the cancer.
March 12 - RCPIL Announces Colorectal Awareness Events -- Colorectal cancer screening kits will be available in March in several central Illinois locations.
March 9 - Cancer Institute Receives Library Subcontract -- The SimmonsCooper Cancer Institute at SIU was awarded a a $36,000 grant from The National Library of Medicine to develop online resources about cancer prevention, education and awareness to consumers.

March 4 - Breast Center Receives VFW Donation -- The Breast Center at SIU has received a gift of more than $12,000 from the Department of Illinois Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars for breast cancer research.

February 15 - NIH Funds Diabetes Research -- A research scientist at SIU School of Medicine in Springfield was awarded a four-year grant from the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, a division of the National Institutes of Health.

January 25 - Researchers Study Alzheimer's Disease -- Research scientists at SIU School of Medicine in Springfield were awarded a total of $3.5 million to further study Alzheimer’s disease and explore new treatments.
January 22 - New Coalition to Address Childhood Obesity -- A new coalition to battle the problem of overweight and obese children in central Illinois has been awarded a $100,000 community engagement grant by Blue Cross-Blue Shield of Illinois.
January 20 - NIH Grant Awarded for Digestive Study -- A faculty member at SIU School of Medicine in Springfield has been awarded a five-year federal grant from the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, a division of the National Institutes of Health to study the digestive process.
January 11 - Summer Internships Offered by Cancer Institute -- Three qualified college students who plan a career in cancer medicine or research will be chosen to complete a summer internship program at the Cancer Institute.
January 8 - Mini Med School Returns -- SIU Mini Medical School is a five-week series of 10 lectures for the public on various medical and health care topics.
