Five medical students have received Alumni Scholarship awards at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine.  The awards are given annually to third- or fourth-year medical students. All of this year’s recipients are fourth-year students.

Jeffrey Hassenflug, son of David Hassenflug of Edwardsville and Kathy Hassenflug of Glen Carbon, earned his bachelor’s degree in applied computer science from Illinois State University in Normal (1998).

Raven Holland, daughter of Lawrence Holland of Chicago and Rhonda Holland of Sauk Village, earned her bachelor’s degree in biology from Prairie View A&M University in Prairie View, Texas (2007).

Jeffrey Hubbard, son of Evelyn Hubbard of Houston, Texas, and the late Bennie Lee Hubbard, earned his bachelor’s degree in biology and his master’s in molecular biology from Florida A&M University in Tallahassee (2006, 2008).

Brittany Obert, daughter of John and Michelle Obert of Quincy, earned her bachelor’s degree in biomechanical engineering from Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wis. (2009).

Emma Volkman, daughter of Phillip and Barbara Volkman of Ashland, earned her bachelor’s degree in ecology and evolutionary biology from University of Michigan in Ann Arbor (2009).

The Alumni Scholarship was established by the charter Class of 1976 as a gift in honor of its 25th reunion. The Class of 1977 followed the lead of the previous class in supporting the fund with reunion gifts. Alumni from all classes contribute to the scholarship annually, increasing the availability of funds.
