SIU Med School Announces Burkhart Scholarship
Andrea Ulysse, a second-year medical student, has received a monetary award from the Kate Burkhart Medical Scholarship Endowment at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine.
Ulysse is a graduate of Happy Hill Secondary School in Grand Anse, St. George, Grenada (1991) and University of Massachusetts-Amherst, where she earned her bachelor’s degree (2001). She is the daughter of Augustine John and Dottice Gabriel of Grand Anse, St. George, Grenada, and is married to John Ulysse from Massachusetts.
The Burkhart scholarship was established in 2003 by Kate Burkhart Daniel, a 1938 graduate of Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. Her grandfather, James Monroe Burkhart, was a trustee of the university in the 1890s when it was called Southern Illinois Normal University. Her father, Carl Burkhart, was an 1897 graduate.
