SIU Med Physician Receives Two National Honors

Dr. Harald Lausen, associate professor of family and community medicine (FCM) at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine, has received two national honors.

Lausen, who also is director of medical student education, osteopathic education, quality initiatives and hospital service of FCM at SIU, was installed as president of the Association of Osteopathic Directors and Medical Educators (AODME) during their annual meeting in Baltimore, Md., this spring.

AODME is a professional association that represents the interests of the entire continuum of osteopathic medical education. Their mission is to provide leadership, tools, and advocacy to assist osteopathic educators in developing physicians who achieve excellence in patient care.

Lausen also was named a Fellow of the National Academy of Osteopathic Medical Educators (NAOME) by the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine. NAOME Fellows are inducted into the Academy each year to serve five-year terms. As Fellows, inductees function as leaders and mentors for academic scholarship and excellence within the osteopathic medical education community.

The AACOM represents the nation’s 29 colleges of osteopathic medicine at 37 locations in 28 states. Today, more than 21,000 students are enrolled in osteopathic medical schools.

Lausen joined SIU in 2007. He completed a family practice residency at SIU (2003). He earned his osteopathic medicine degree from Midwestern University, Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine (2000) and his master’s and bachelor’s degrees in biology, both at the University of Illinois Springfield (1997, 1993).
