SIU School of Medicine Faculty Promoted

Academic promotions have been awarded to a dozen faculty members at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. The promotions were approved this spring by the SIU Board of Trustees and are effective July 1.

[Note – faculty are in Springfield unless noted.]

Nine faculty members have been promoted:

Dr. Robert Abrams, from assistant professor to associate professor of obstetrics/gynecology;

Dr. Katherine Hild-Mosley, from assistant professor to associate professor of obstetrics/gynecology;

Dr. Chad Huston, from assistant professor to associate professor of obstetrics/gynecology;

Dr. Ricardo Loret de Mola, from associate professor to professor of obstetrics/gynecology;

Daotai Nie, Ph.D., from associate professor to professor of medical microbiology, immunology and cell biology;

Chad Noggle, Ph.D., from assistant professor to associate professor of psychiatry;

Sophia Ran, Ph.D., from associate professor to professor of medical microbiology, immunology and cell biology;

Dr. Robert Robinson, from assistant professor to associate professor of internal medicine; and

Dr. Omar Vargas, from assistant professor to associate professor of internal medicine.

Three faculty members have been promoted with tenure:

Joe Cheatwood, Ph.D., from assistant professor to associate professor of anatomy in Carbondale;

Farid Kadyrov, Ph.D., from assistant professor to associate professor of biochemistry and molecular biology in Carbondale; and

Dr. Christina Vassileva, from assistant professor to associate professor of surgery.

SIU School of Medicine’s mission is to assist the people of central and southern Illinois in meeting their health needs through education, service, research and community service.
