Events Set to Present 21th Edition of SIU Med School Literary Magazine

The 21th annual edition of SCOPE, the literary arts magazine at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine, will be published this month. Two public events will be held featuring poetry, prose and artwork from the magazine. Selected artwork submitted for the publication will be on display at the SIU second floor lobby of 801 N. Rutledge St., Springfield, weekdays from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. April 15 - 24.

The newest edition of the magazine, published each year by SIU medical students, features 36 poems, short stories, artwork and photographs submitted by students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends of the medical school.

The public reception and unveiling of the 21th edition of SCOPE will take place at noon Wednesday, April 23, in SIU’s Pearson Museum, second floor, 801 N. Rutledge St.

The “Artist in Residence” program series at Vachel Lindsey Home Historic Site continues with an exhibit of the artwork from SCOPE at 603 S. Fifth St. in Springfield.

The series is co-sponsored by the Vachel Lindsay Association. Authors and artists will present selections from the magazine at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 26 at the home.

First published in 1994, SCOPE is produced each year by an ever-changing group of medical students who volunteer to coordinate the magazine. With dozens of entries submitted every year in poetry, prose and artwork, SCOPE exemplifies the artistic and creative energy of the SIU School of Medicine community.
