SIU Med School Announces Templeton Scholarship

Brittany Koch, a first-year medical student, has received a monetary award from the J.S. Templeton, M.D., Memorial Scholarship at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. The award is given annually to an SIU medical student from a southern Illinois county.

Koch is the daughter of John and Jean Koch of Carbondale. She is a graduate of Carbondale Community High School (2009) and Washington University in St. Louis, where she earned her degree in psychology (2013).

The Templeton Scholarship was established in 1993 by Harriss Malan of Carbondale and Jane Templeton Minton of DuQuoin, in memory of their uncle and father, Dr. James Scott Templeton. Templeton was a general practitioner who practiced in the Pickneyville area for more than sixty years. He also was a founder of Pinckneyville Community Hospital.
