SIU School of Medicine Offers Free Car Seat Inspection and Safety Fair

The fifth annual free car seat inspection and health fair event, “Spring into Safety,” will be held from 12:30 – 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, May 14, at the Southern Illinois University Department of Family & Community Medicine clinic, 520 N. Fourth St., Springfield.

ThinkFirst, an injury prevention program offered by SIU School of Medicine in Springfield, will have safety specialists on site to provide free car seat inspections. SIU staff and medical students will provide information on the proper use of bike helmets and general pediatric health issues. Free bike helmets will be offered to pre-K children who are present, while supplies last.

This event is sponsored by SIU School of Medicine’s ThinkFirst program and Department of Family & Community Medicine, Illinois Department of Transportation, and Illinois Secretary of State’s Office. For more information contact SIU’s ThinkFirst chapter Director Nancy Kyrouac at 217-545-9112.

ThinkFirst is the SIU School of Medicine's injury prevention program and uses education, research and policy to prevent brain, spinal cord and other traumatic injuries. Started in 1990, this 24-year-old educational program provides free, age-appropriate injury prevention presentations throughout central Illinois.
