SIU Med School Sponsors “ThinkFirst” Poinsettia Fundraiser

"ThinkFirst," an injury prevention program offered by Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Springfield, is offering its eleventh annual poinsettia fundraiser.

Poinsettia, Christmas cactuses and cyclamens offer colorful blooms for the holiday season. They will be available in various sizes and colors with prices ranging from $5 to $25.

The deadline for placing orders and sending pre-payment is Friday, November 22. Plants will arrive for pickup from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Tuesday, December 3. Pickup location is the medical school’s warehouse/dock at 327 W. Calhoun Ave.

ThinkFirst is a brain and spinal cord injury prevention program of the Orthopedic Surgery Department at SIU School of Medicine. Proceeds raised from the sale of the plants will be used to purchase bicycle helmets, child safety seats and safety educational materials for children in central Illinois.

Order forms are available by contacting Nancy Kyrouac at 217-545-7766 or nkyrouac@siumed.edu or can be downloaded online at www.siumed.edu/thinkfirst/support.html. Checks should be made payable to Shelby County Community Services. This agency provides mental health and rehabilitation services and is partnering with ThinkFirst for this project.
