Mills (pictured at right) has been a comedian for 23 years, working in clubs and theaters nationwide. She can be heard daily on Sirius/XM comedy channels. Diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2013, Mills is now cancer free and has used her experience to bring humor and inspiration to difficult topics.
Her positive message and strong stage presence has landed her on many stages, including last year when she was chosen to give her talk, “Cancer is a Laughing Matter,” at TEDxChattanooga. She has also spoken to the Ovarian Cancer National Alliance in Washington, D.C.
Though the 5’2” comedian was told she was too short to play basketball, Mills became the first University of Tennessee-Chattanooga All-American in the university’s history.
The mission of Simmons Cancer Institute at SIU is to serve the people of central and southern Illinois by addressing their present and future cancer needs through education, research, patient care and community service.
