SIU Med School to Hold Golf Outing for Camp COCO

Teams are being formed for the 10th annual charity golf outing this month benefiting the Camp COCO Children's Cancer Fund at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Springfield. It tees off with a shotgun start at noon Wednesday, June 23, at The Rail Golf Club in Sherman.

The presenting sponsor of the four-person scramble is Complete Care Pharmacy. The entry fee of $125 per player includes greens fees, golf cart, lunch, dinner and prizes. Sponsorships of golf carts in honor or memory of a family member or friend also are available.

The COCO Children's Cancer Fund supports Camp COCO and other projects for young patients being treated for hematological and oncological diseases. Camp COCO is a summer camp sponsored by SIU School of Medicine where kids with cancer and blood disorders can spend a week enjoying typical camping activities. The campers receive special attention from SIU's pediatric staff and health professionals as well as from the St. Jude's Affiliate in Peoria and various community volunteers. The cost of sending one child to camp is approximately $450. This year's camp will be held July 10-16 at Timber Pointe in Bloomington.

Send checks for the scramble or cart sponsors, payable to Camp COCO/SIU Foundation, to the SIU Foundation, P.O. Box 19666, Springfield, IL 62794-9666, or call 217-545-2955 weekdays for information. Reservations for both are due Wednesday, June 16, and can be faxed to 217-545-1913.
