Fifteen medical students have been elected officers, representatives and committee members for the Class of 2004 at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Springfield. The School is based in Carbondale and Springfield and is specifically oriented to educating new physicians prepared to practice in Illinois communities. Since 1975, 1,847 physicians have earned SIU medical degrees and a majority are now in primary care fields. The School consistently ranks among the leaders of all U.S. medical schools in the percentage of graduates practicing in the primary care fields of family practice, general interest medicine, general pediatrics, and obstetrics and gynecology. -30- SIU School of Medicine Class of 2004 Officers Jillian Tyler, daughter of Richard and Marcia Tyler of Monroe Center, was elected chair of the senior class. Brent Marsden, son of David and Mary Marsden of DuQuoin, was elected vice chair of the senior class and representative to the student progress committee. Brian Wheatley, son of James and Sandra Wheatley of Decatur, was elected secretary of the senior class. Marcia McCann, daughter of Ute Oswald of Pana and Robert McCann of Brookfield, was elected treasurer of the senior class. Angela Klingler, daughter of Jan Goldman of Acton, Mass., and Paul Goldman of Rye, N.H., was elected senior class representative to the student general assembly. Jamie Fulfer, daughter of Donald and Paula Anderson of Mahomet, was elected senior class representative to the student general assembly and Year 3 curriculum committee. William (T.J.) Payne, son of Tom and Judie Payne of O'Fallon, was elected to the Organization of Student Representatives committee. Thomas Kelly, son of Robert Kelly of Bloomfield Hills, Mich., was elected to the Year 4 curriculum committee. Ted Huang, son of Yong-Ching and Dorothy Huang of Warrenville, was elected to the admissions committee. Robert Winfield, son of John and Barbara Winfield of Naples, Fla., was elected to the library advisory committee. Mary Joelle Lipcamon, daughter of Bill and Regina Lipcamon of Pittsfield, was elected to the educational policy committee. Alyssa Raines, daughter of Mark and Paula Dalton of Bloomington, was elected to the information management policy committee. Michael Bass, son of Drs. Alberto and Susan Vidal of Greensburg, Ky., was elected to the information management policy/educational policy committee. Robert Hanfland, son of Charles and Janet Hanfland of Sigel, was elected to the student advisory committee. Ari Leib, son of Michael and Marshan Leib of Herscher, was elected to the student advisory committee. |
