Sixteen medical students have been elected officers, representatives and committee members for the Class of 2005 at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Springfield.

The School is based in Carbondale and Springfield and is specifically oriented to educating new physicians prepared to practice in Illinois communities. Since 1975, 1,847 physicians have earned SIU medical degrees and a majority are now in primary care fields. The School consistently ranks among the leaders of all U.S. medical schools in the percentage of graduates practicing in the primary care fields of family practice, general interest medicine, general pediatrics, and obstetrics and gynecology.

SIU School of Medicine Class of 2005 Officers

Lisa Hagrelius, daughter of Jim and Marilyn Hagrelius of Princeton, was elected chair of the junior class.

April Boyer Moore, daughter of Kevin and Linda Boyer of Winslow, was elected vice chair of the junior class and to the Year 3 curriculum committee.

Quinn Sanner, daughter of Daniel and Ellen Sanner of Decatur, was elected secretary of the junior class.

Jill Wirth, daughter of Jon and Joy Wirth of Freeport, was elected treasurer of the junior class.

Laurel Bailey, daughter of William and Evelyn Bailey of Jonesboro, was elected junior class representative to the student general assembly.

Mathew Gardner, son of Tom and Janet Gardner of Bloomington, was elected junior class representative to the student general assembly.

Jennifer Swearingen, daughter of Randy and Kay Miller of Johnsonville, was elected to the Organization of Student Representatives committee.

Dawnisa Baker, daughter of Gaither and Cheryl Taylor of Russellville, Kentucky, was elected to the Year 4 curriculum committee.

Amar Chadaga, son of Asha and Rajagopal Chadaga of Carterville, was elected to the admissions committee.

Jeffrey Link, son of John and Kathy Link of Springfield, was elected to the library advisory committee.

Christopher McDowell, son of James and Connie McDowell of Quincy, was elected to the educational policy committee.

Ashraf Darwish, son of Hamzeh and Amal Darwish of Oak Lawn, was elected to the information management policy committee.

Ryan Diederich, son of Richard and Darlene Diederich of Marion, was elected to the information management policy/educational policy committee.

Lori Jackson, daughter of Roy and Myrtle Jackson of Decatur, was elected to the student progress committee.

Jennifer Bartlett, daughter of Hale and Jean Bartlett of Willowbrook, was elected to the student advisory committee.

Dary Costa, son of Jonathan Costa of Palmyra, Penn., and Jeanette Costa of Tempe, Ariz., was elected to the student advisory committee.
