Two SIU School of Medicine faculty members have received national honors. Dr. Kim J. Hodgson, professor and chair of the vascular surgery division, concludes his year as president of the Society for Clinical Vascular Surgery (SCVS) with his presidential address on how to incorporate cutting-edge technology into the everyday treatment of vascular disorders. SCVS's annual meeting was held March 10-13 in Palm Springs, Calif. The group represents more than 1,000 surgeons in North America. Hodgson joined SIU's faculty after advanced training in both Great Britain and the U.S., including completion of vascular surgery fellowship at SIU (1987). He is board certified in vascular surgery and now directs SIU's vascular surgical fellowship. He has authored more than 200 book chapters and scientific publications and served as principal investigator on more than two dozen investigational trials of new devices and drugs to treat vascular disease. He completed a surgery residency at the Albany Medical Center in New York (1986). He earned his medical degree at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in Philadelphia (1981) and his bachelor's at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, N.J. (1977). Dr. Victoria Nichols-Johnson, associate professor of obstetrics and gynecology, has been installed as the president of the Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine (ABM) during its eighth international meeting in Chicago. ABM is an organization for physicians from more than 30 countries, which promotes breastfeeding education, research and advocacy. Nichols-Johnson is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology and a fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She joined SlU's faculty in 1976, having completed her residency training at Mayo Graduate School of Medicine in Rochester, Minn. (1975) where she served one year as chief resident. She completed her medical degree at the University of Michigan School of Medicine (1970) and earned her bachelor's at the University of Illinois in Champaign (1966).
