SIU to Host 8th Session of "Mini Med School" SIU Mini Medical School, a six-week series of 12 lectures on various medical and health care topics, will be presented in Springfield on consecutive Tuesday evenings beginning February 17. A program of Southern Illinois University School of Medicine, the lectures are presented in an easy to understand format and cover a range of topics. (Editor: See attached list.) Two lectures will be given from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday evenings February 17 through March 23, in the School's South Auditorium, 801 N. Rutledge St. (second floor), Springfield. Refreshments will be served before each session beginning at 6:30 p.m. The Mini Medical School program is organized each year by SIU sophomore medical students. The lecturers are physicians and other faculty at the School of Medicine selected by the students in part because of their good teaching style. This year's topics are aging and age-related hearing loss, burn management, cancer care, family dynamics, health effects of exercise, heart disease, imaging, menopause and hormone replacement therapy, SARS, Social Security rights and rules, and total joint replacement. The cost is $15 for the lecture series, which includes supplemental materials. Pre-registration is preferred and can be done by calling the School's Office of Research and Faculty Affairs at 217-545-7936 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays. Registration also can be done at the door.
