Two from SIU School of Medicine have been selected for a national honors --

Dr. Quincy O. Scott, Jr., associate professor of family and community medicine, and Dr. Ralph Latta, a first-year resident physician at the School of Medicine's family medicine residency program in Carbondale, has been selected to participate in the American Medical Student Association Foundation's Leaderships Rural Health Seminar Series. The year-long program, established by the Bureau of Health Professions at the Health Resources and Services Administration, is designed to provide residents and faculty from primary care medicine and dentistry with the skills needed to become public health leaders.

Scott also is associate director of the Carbondale family practice residency. He joined SlU's Carbondale faculty in 1994 after completing his family practice residency at SIU's Carbondale program (1993). A native of Georgetown, he earned his medical degree from the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine, now Midwestern University, (1990) and earned his bachelor's degree from SIU in Carbondale (1985).

A native of Benton, Latta earned his bachelor's degree at SIU Carbondale in (1996) and his medical degree at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Rockford (2003).
