SIU Med School and Orthotic/Prosthetic Associates Combine Services for Amputees

An orthopaedic surgeon from Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Springfield and two area prosthetists from Orthotic and Prosthetic Associates are joining forces to create a multidisciplinary clinic to help individuals with amputations.

The Central Illinois Amputee Clinic will provide amputees with advanced medical and prosthetic care, including physical therapy. The clinic is held the second Monday afternoon each month at 355 W. Carpenter Street, Suite B, Springfield.

"We are pleased to offer these services to area amputees because they face many unique challenges and we want to provide the most current medical support possible so they can maintain independent healthy lifestyles," said Dr. David Olysav, associate professor of orthopaedic surgery at SIU.

"We have always strived to provide the most advanced prosthetic care possible for our patients. Now we can offer the convenience of multiple specialists during a single clinic visit," said Daryl Barth, president of Orthotic and Prosthetic Associates and a certified prosthetist/orthotist. The other prosthetist is Terry Supan.

Appointments for the Central Illinois Amputee Clinic may be made by calling 217-789-1450 weekdays. Most insurance plans and Medicare are accepted.
