Study of Dermatitis Underway at SIU Medical School

Patients are being recruited by Southern Illinois University School of Medicine as part of a national study for the treatment of eczema, or atopic dermatitis, by SIU’s Division of Dermatology.

The study of a foam, EF clobetasol propionate, for the treatment of mild to severe atopic dermatitis, is underway at multiple sites.

"This foam delivery system may be a significant new approach to treating eczema," said Dr. Stephen Stone, professor of dermatology at SIU who is directing the study.

Volunteers for the study should be between 12 years of age and older and in generally good health. Each participant will receive a skin examination and other tests before beginning and during three follow-up visits over one month. There is no charge to the participants for the tests and medications related to the study, which is sponsored by Connetics Corporation.

Results will be shared with the participant's personal physician . If you are interested in participating in the study, call Merri Ellen King in the dermatology division at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine, 217-545-7908 weekdays.
