Individuals with diabetes and their families are invited to a free educational event in November sponsored by the Division of Endocrinology at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. The event, "Getting to Know Your Diabetes," will be held 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 2, at Prairie Heart Institute Conference Center, 619 W. Mason St., Springfield. Informational exhibits open at 5:30 p.m. and the program begins at 6:30 p.m.

A part of National Diabetes Awareness month, the program will offer helpful tips and suggestions for living with diabetes. Physicians, nurses and dietitians from the School's endocrinology division will discuss blood testing goals, medication for diabetes, and what and how much to eat. The audience will have opportunities to ask questions after each presentation. Light refreshments will be served.
