Two SIU Med School Employees Honored

Southern Illinois University School of Medicine has honored two civil service employees for exemplary work. Lynne Cleverdon has been named supervisor of the year. Anne Barnett has been named civil service employee of the year. Both were recognized during the School's employee recognition activities this spring.

Cleverdon is business manager for the School’s Pearson Museum and assistant to the chair and an adjunct instructor in the medical humanities department. Her nominators said she "is an excellent role model, consistently going above and beyond the duties of her position….She not only listens and empathizes, but also often suggests creative solutions to problems….In addition she is involved in many community service groups and church-related activities." A resident of Springfield since 1973, Cleverdon is the daughter of Mary Larson and has two children, Carol Booth and Joseph Cleverdon. She earned her bachelor's degree at the College of Wooster in Wooster, Ohio (1963) and her master's at the University of Illinois Springfield (1989).

Barnett was selected from the 12 employees of the month named during 2004. She is a secretary in the education and curriculum office. Her nominators said that "despite her responsibilities, she is able to prioritize her work, multi-task, meet deadlines and still find time to help anyone else she sees in need. She always maintains a cheerful and pleasant attitude, even in difficult times." Barnett is the daughter of Barbara Markert of Mt. Sterling. She and her husband, Steve Barnett, live in Springfield and have two children, Dan Barnett and Betsy Butler. She is a graduate of Patricia Stevens Career College in St. Louis (1970).
