SIU Springfield Center for Family Medicine Hosts Fun Run in Girard

The first annual Fun Run hosted by SIU Springfield Center for Family Medicine will be held this Saturday, July 31, as part of Girard Days.

Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. at the Girard Post Office on the square and the run starts at 8 a.m. Runners and walkers of all ages are encouraged to participate in the one mile or three mile event. There is no registration fee.

The Fun Run was organized as a way to help improve the health of residents, especially those who have cardiovascular disease, in the Girard community and surrounding area. The event was organized by the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine faculty and staff in Springfield.

The Fun Run is part of a project funded through the Quentin N. Burdick Rural Health Interdisciplinary program. SIU fellowship participants are Dr. Anna Mies Richie, assistant professor; Cyndi Ledbetter, assistant professor; Helen Moose, instructor; and Linda Werner, social worker, all from the SIU's Center for Family Medicine in Springfield; and Tracey Smith, nurse educator from the School's education and curriculum office. This is the second Burdick fellowship received by SIU faculty for the Girard community.

For more information about the Fun Run, call SIU Center for Family Medicine at 757-8137 weekdays.
