Two SIU School of Medicine faculty have recently professional honors -

Dr. Kim Hodgson, professor of surgery and division chair of vascular surgery, has been elected to a six-year term on the American Board of Vascular Surgery as well as a six-year term on the Vascular Board of the American Board of Surgery.

Hodgson was named chair of SIU's vascular surgery in 1998, having joined the faculty in 1987. He completed a one-year SIU fellowship in vascular surgery (1987) and a surgery residency at the Albany Medical Center in New York (1986). He earned his medical degree at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in Philadelphia (1981) and his bachelor's at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, N.J. (1977). Hodgson is board certified in surgery with added qualifications in peripheral vascular surgery.

Dr. K. Thomas Robbins has been elected vice president of the American Cancer Society (ACS) western region board of directors and will serve as regional delegate director to the ACS's Illinois division board of directors. Robbins is interim chair of the SIU Cancer Institute as well as professor and division chair of otolaryngology.

Robbins joined SIU's faculty in 2003. He served a fellowship in head and neck surgical oncology at the Institute of Laryngology and Otology in London, England (1982). Prior to that, he completed his residency in otolaryngology at the University of Toronto in Ontario, Canada (1981). Robbins received his medical degree from the Dalhousie University Medical School in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada (1973) and his undergraduate education from Memorial University of Newfoundland in St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada (1969).
