Two SIU School of Medicine faculty have recently received national honors -

Gary E. Myers, Ph.D., assistant professor of medical humanities and psychiatry, was installed as president-elect of the Association for Behavioral Science and Medical Education at the association's annual meeting in Vail, Colorado in October. The association is an interdisciplinary professional society dedicated to strengthening behavioral science teaching in medical schools, residency programs, and in continuing medical education. Myers also directs the psychosocial care program in medical humanities.

Myers joined the SIU faculty in 1998. He completed his bachelor's of science degree in biology at the University of Tampa (1970). Myers earned his master's in divinity and doctorate in theology and personality from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia (1977, 1989).

Andrzej Bartke, Ph.D., professor of internal medicine, has been named to a two-year term serving on the Cellular Mechanisms in Aging and Development study section for the Center for Scientific Review at the National Institutes of Health. The group reviews research applications for funding that are focused on development and/or aging, particularly integrative research areas focused on biological changes over time.

Bartke joined the SIU faculty in 1984. He earned his magister degree (equivalent of M.S.) from Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Poland (1962) and received his doctorate in zoology genetics from the University of Kansas in Lawrence (1965). Bartke has received numerous national and international awards for his aging research.
