Two from Southern Illinois University School of Medicine have received professional honors –

Dr. Michael W. Neumeister, associate professor of plastic surgery, gave the Godina Lecture at the American Society of Reconstructive Microsurgery's (ASRM) annual meeting in January in Puerto Rico. The distinguished lecture, the highest honor by the ASRM, is given annually by a microsurgeon who has demonstrated leadership, innovation and ongoing commitment to the field of microsurgery. Neumeister was the 2004 recipient of the Godina Traveling Fellowship and the lecture marks the conclusion of the fellowship. During the fellowship, Neumeister visited centers in Romania, Belgium, Austria, Hungary, Germany, Canada, Taiwan and the United States, where he learned as well as taught various microsurgery techniques.

Neumeister joined SIU's faculty in 1997. He earned his bachelor's at the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario, Canada (1984) and his medical degree at the University of Toronto (1988). He completed his plastic surgery residency at the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg, Manitoba (1996), a microsurgery fellowship at Harvard University's Brigham & Women's Hospital in Boston (1996) and a hand and microsurgery fellowship at SIU (1997).

Nancy Calvert , director of financial aid, has been elected to a three-year term as president of the Illinois Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators. The association supports and educates financial aid administrators at post-secondary institutions in Illinois.

Calvert joined the School in 1979. She earned her bachelor's degree in education at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb (1970).
