SIU Med School Sponsors Ethnic Heritage Day for German and Nordic Countries

An Ethnic Heritage Day celebration featuring German and Nordic cultures will be held Monday, December 19, at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. The event will be held noon to 1:30 p.m. in the lobby of the School's main building at 801 N. Rutledge St., Springfield.

The program includes short talks about the countries – Germany by Anna Marie Fuhrig, author of Stories of Americans Who Came from Germany: 400 Years of Germans in America; Iceland by Marie Childers, retired administrator of the Illinois Department of Human Services Training Division; and Norway by Virginia Scott, a local genealogist.

There also will be cultural displays and artifacts as well as tasting of German and Nordic foods, some provided by members of the local chapter of DANK, the German American National Congress, and The Sons of Norway.

Ethnic Heritage Day celebrations are held monthly to share information about various ethnic cultures. The events are organized by the SIU Diversity, Multicultural and Minority Affairs office.

For more information, contact Patricia Davis at 545-7243 weekdays.
