SIU Med School Sponsors Native American Ethnic Heritage Day

An Ethnic Heritage Day celebration featuring Native American cultures will be held Tuesday, November 15, at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. The event will be held noon to 1:30 p.m. in the lobby of the School’s main building at 801 N. Rutledge St., Springfield.

The program includes a talk about Native American healing practices by Joyce Surbeck-Harris, Ed.D., an educational consultant who studied healing methodology on a North Carolina Cherokee reservation.

There also will be cultural displays and artifacts as well as tasting of foods from Native American cultures.

Ethnic Heritage Day celebrations are held regularly to share information about various ethnic cultures. The events are organized by the SIU Diversity, Multicultural and Minority Affairs office.

For more information, contact Patricia Davis at 217-545-7243 weekdays.
