SIU Med School Introduces New Logo

Southern Illinois University School of Medicine has begun using a new logo. After Southern Illinois University Carbondale changed its logo last year to a “window” around an outline of Pulliam Hall on the Carbondale campus, the medical school received the go-ahead from its parent campus to develop its own logo, which was designed to match SIUC's look.

The School of Medicine is using the same window shape, with the letters S-I-U with a snake wrapped around the "I," symbolizing the snake of Aesculapius, the Greek god of medicine and healing. The same type faces are used, but the medical school continues to use the dark green color it has used since its founding in 1970.

"We believe this new logo is distinctive and easily recognizable and will help set SIU School of Medicine apart from the other educational institutions and medical providers in the region," said Dr. J. Kevin Dorsey, Ph.D., dean and provost.

The identity standards for both Carbondale’s and the medical school’s new logos are being finalized, but the medical school has begun using its new logo on all stationery items. It also now appears on the School’s homepage on the Web at www.siumed.edu.

Questions about the medical school’s new logo can be addressed to the Office of Public Affairs, 217-545-2155, or publicaffairs@siumed.edu.
