Fifteen third-year medical students have been elected officers, representatives and committee members for the Class of 2007 at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Springfield.

SIU School of Medicine is a public medical school established in 1970 and focused on the health care needs of downstate Illinois. An international leader in medical education, the school is based in Carbondale and Springfield and is specifically oriented to educating new physicians prepared to practice in Illinois communities. Since opening, nearly 2,000 physicians have graduated from our program.

Catherine Gaffigan, daughter of Ed and Chris Gaffigan of Springfield, was elected chair of the junior class and a member of the student progress committee.

Adam Reid, son of Ken and Connie Reid of Carlinville, was elected vice chair of the junior class.

Sara Woodward Dyrstad, daughter of David and Theresa Woodward of Morton, was elected secretary of the junior class.

Vivek Patel, son of Bhailal Patel of Melrose Park, was elected treasurer of the junior class.

Sarah Graham, daughter of Dr. Donald and Patricia Graham of Springfield, was elected as junior class representative to the student general assembly.

Jason Kegg, son of James and Sandra Kegg of Bourbonnais, was elected as junior class representative to the student general assembly.

Samir Shah, son of Dr. Prashant and Dolores Shah of Centralia, was elected to serve on the Organization of Student Representatives and the information management policy/educational policy committees.

Jeffrey Bradley, son of Dr. Michael and Jane Bradley of Springfield, was elected to serve on the Year 3 curriculum committee.

Elizabeth Stewart, daughter of Bob and Terri Stewart of Dunlap, was elected to serve on the Year 4 curriculum committee.

Amanda Wheeler, daughter of David and Ronna Wheeler of Dixon, was elected to serve on the admissions committee.

Jeff Klein, son of Russell and Rebecca Klein of DuQuoin, was elected to the library advisory committee.

Jason Stone, son of Marilyn Silvey of Carbondale and Errol Stone of Farmer City, was elected to serve on the educational policy committee.

Herbert Zerth, son of Herb and Christine Zerth of Mokena, was elected to serve on the information management policy committee.

Alan Siroy, son of Dr. Edwin and Salome Siroy of Shelbyville, was elected to serve on the student advisory committee.

Donald (Mick) Sullivan, son of James and Nancy Sullivan of Munster, Ind., was elected to serve on the student advisory committee.
