Sixteen first-year medical students have been elected officers, representatives and committee members for the Class of 2009 at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Carbondale.

SIU School of Medicine is a public medical school established in 1970 and focused on the health care needs of downstate Illinois. An international leader in medical education, the school is based in Carbondale and Springfield and is specifically oriented to educating new physicians prepared to practice in Illinois communities. Since opening, nearly 2,000 physicians have graduated from our program.

SIU School of Medicine Class of 2009 Officers

Hassan Hassan, son of Dr. Ali and Dr. Anisa Hassan of Joplin, Mo., was elected chair of the freshman class.

Nicole Dunlap, daughter of Brenda Foster of Champaign, was elected vice chair of the freshman class.

Jennifer Creamer, daughter of Gary Creamer of Brimfield, was elected secretary of the freshman class.

Casey Hollensteiner, son of Joseph and Catherine Hollensteiner of Quincy, was elected treasurer of the freshman class.

Anthony Jeanmenne, son of Raoul and Teri Jeanmenne of Peoria, was elected as freshman class representative to the student general assembly.

Luke Leutkemyer, son of Rick and Rita Leutkemyer of Washington, was elected as freshman class representative to the student general assembly.

Audrey Tanksley, daughter of Charles Roberson, Jr., of Chicago, and Wynonia Tanksley of Minneapolis, Minn., was elected to serve on the Organization of Student Representatives committee.

Whitney Luke, daughter of Michael and Robyn Luke of Springfield, was elected to serve on the Year 1 curriculum committee.

Sarah Starnes, daughter of Randall and Rebecca Starnes of Bloomington, was elected to serve on the Year 1 curriculum committee.

Neal Rushforth, son of Daniel and Karilyn Rushforth of Winthrop Harbor, was elected as volunteer coordinator.

Mark Adams, son of Bedford and Sharon Adams of Louisville, Ky., was elected to serve on the admissions committee.

Kevin Dale, son of Dr. Galen and Cheryl Dale of Mahomet, was elected to serve on the educational policy committee.

Tiffany Morris, daughter of Johnny and Dedra Morris of Olympia Fields, was elected to serve on the information management policy committee.

Arica Pittman, daughter of Jerome and Angela Pittman of Florissant, Mo., was elected to serve on the student advisory committee.

Naitik Patel, son of Jagdish and Varsha Patel of Des Plaines, was elected to serve on the student advisory committee.

Drew Peterson, son of Ray and Marcia Peterson of Rochester, was elected to serve on the student progress committee.
