SIU Med School Pediatric Oncologist Now Sees Patients in Decatur

Dr. Gregory P. Brandt, a specialist in pediatric hematology and oncology, is now seeing patients in the afternoons of the second Thursday of each month at Physicians Plaza, Suite 101, One Memorial Drive in Decatur. Brandt is an assistant professor of pediatrics and director of the pediatric hematology/oncology division at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Springfield and a member of the St. John’s Children’s Hospital, a joint endeavor with SIU and St. John's.

Brandt is a member of the international Children’s Oncology Group, which is focused on preventing and curing childhood and adolescent cancer through scientific discovery and compassionate care and performing clinical and research trials, as well as medical director for Camp COCO, SIU’s summer camp for pediatric cancer patients from around central Illinois.

Services include evaluation and treatment services for pediatric, adolescent and young adults with hematologic and oncologic conditions such as leukemia, brain tumors, Hodgkin’s diseases and various bleeding and blood clotting disorders. Brandt joined SIU's faculty in 1995 after completing a three-year fellowship in hematology, oncology and bone marrow transplant at the Children's Hospital Medical Center in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was previously an instructor in pediatrics at St. Louis University School of Medicine (1991-92).

Brandt completed a residency in pediatrics and his medical degree, both at St. Louis University School of Medicine (1991, 1988). He earned his bachelor’s at the College of St. Thomas (1983). He is board certified by the American Academy of Pediatrics and a member of the American Cancer Society and American Society of Hematology.
