SIU Med School Enrolls Visiting Student from Tulane

A visiting fourth-year medical student from Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans has temporarily enrolled in the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine.

Jamie (Martin) Macklin, daughter of Dick Martin and Donetta Martin, both of Effingham, is finishing a clinical elective this week with Dr. Lucinda Buescher, associate professor of dermatology, and other faculty and resident physicians in SIU's dermatology division in the internal medicine department.

She began her studies at SIU with a four-week family medicine preceptorship in November working with Dr. Jeffrey Crowell and Dr. Jeffrey Brummer at Family Care Associates in Effingham.

From January through April, Macklin will enroll in additional SIU electives. She plans to return to Tulane and graduate in May 2006.

SIU School of Medicine is a public medical school established in 1970 and focused on the health care needs of downstate Illinois.  An international leader in medical education, the school is based in Carbondale and Springfield and is specifically oriented to educating new physicians prepared to practice in Illinois communities.  Since opening, nearly 2,000 physicians have graduated from our program.
