SIU Medical School Elects New Alumni Board Members

Six board members have been named to Southern Illinois University School of Medicine’s Alumni Society Board of Governors.  Two are newly elected members of the board and four were re-elected to a second three-year term, which begins in the spring of 2007.

The new members Dr. Denise Davis, a physical medicine and rehabilitation physician in Columbus, Ohio, and member of the class of 1994; and Dr. Fritz Lower, a pathology physician in Springfield and member of the class of 1989.

Re-elected to a second term were Dr. Debbie Fowler-Dixon Bross, a family practice physician in Collinsville and member of the class of 1993; Dr. Paul Checchia, a pediatrics critical care physician in University City, Mo., and member of the class of 1993; Dr. Chris Sweeney, an internal medicine physician in Omaha, Neb., and member of the class of 1995; and Dr. Andrew Varney, an internal medicine physician and associate professor at SIU School of Medicine in Springfield and a member of the class of 1988. 

The 20-member board represents the interests of the 2,061 graduates of the School and serves as the official vehicle for alumni to maintain personal and professional ties to the School.  The board’s activities include overseeing the Distinguished Alumni Award program and providing guidance for continuing medical education programming and the SIU Foundation’s annual alumni fund campaigns.
