Two faculty members from SIU School of Medicine have recently received national honors –

Glen P. Aylward, Ph.D., Glenn Aylward, Ph.D. portrait professor of pediatrics and psychiatry, was installed as president elect of the Society for Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics at their annual meeting in Philadelphia this fall.  The professional international organization is dedicated to improving the health of infants, children and adolescents by promoting research, teaching and clinical practice in developmental and behavioral pediatrics.

Aylward joined the SlU faculty in 1979.  He earned his doctoral degree at Georgia State University in Atlanta (1979), his master's degree at Fairleigh Dickinson University in Teaneck, N.J. (1974) and his bachelor's degree at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, N.J. (1972).  He and his wife, Deborah Aylward, have four children.

Gary E. Myers, Ph.D., M.Div., Gary Myers, Ph.D., portrait associate professor of medical humanities and psychiatry, was elected to a two-year term as president of the Association for the Behavioral Sciences and Medical Education at its annual meeting in October in Annapolis, Md.  The association developed from National Institutes for Health initiatives aimed at enhancing integration of the behavioral and social sciences into the training of physicians and health care professionals.

Myers joined SIU’s faculty in 1999.  He earned his doctoral and master’s degrees at Emory University in Atlanta (1989, 1977), and his bachelor’s at the University of Tampa (1970).
