Two from Southern Illinois University School of Medicine have received professional honors –

Nancy Calvert, director of financial affairs, received the Central Group on Student Affairs (CGSA) Outstanding Service Award for 2007 at their meeting in April in Omaha.   Nominees for this award have demonstrated service to CGSA and an outstanding record of accomplishment, resourcefulness and dedication to the mission of the CGSA.

Calvert joined the School in 1979.  She earned her bachelor’s degree in education at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb (1970).

She and her husband, Jerry, live in Rochester.

Elizabeth D. Tate, nurse practitioner in neurology, will receive the national 2007 Claire Chee Award for Excellence in Child Neurology Nursing from the Association of Child Neurology Nurses at their annual meeting in Quebec, Canada, in October.  This annual award “recognizes and honors the nurse who has rendered distinguished service within the profession of child neurology nursing and who demonstrates, through strength of character and competence, a commitment to the care of children and their families with neurological disorders.”

Tate joined the School in 2001 and serves as the clinical manager of the National Pediatric Myoclonus Center, based at SIU School of Medicine.  She earned her master’s in nursing and nurse practitioner certificate from the University of California at Los Angeles and her bachelor’s in nursing from George Mason University School of Nursing in Fairfax, Va.  She is nationally certified by the American Credentialing Nurses Center as a nurse practitioner.
