Knights of Columbus to Host Breakfast Benefiting Camp COCO

Knights of Columbus #364 will be hosting a breakfast to benefit Camp COCO on Sunday, April 8.   The breakfast will take place from 8 a.m. to noon at the Knights of Columbus Council #364, 2200 S. Meadowbrook Road, just off West Iles.   All of the proceeds will go to Camp COCO, a summer camp for children with cancer sponsored by Southern Illinois University School of Medicine.

The menu includes eggs, sausage, bacon, ham, biscuits and gravy, various breakfast sweets and several other items.  The cost is $7.50 for adults, $4.50 for children ages 6-12, and free for children 5 and under.  There will be a 50/50 drawing.

Camp COCO, a one-week camp for children with cancer and other blood disorders, hosted 90 children last July.  This year’s camp is July 8-13 at Timber Pointe Outdoor Center in Bloomington.  Camp COCO is headed by Dr. Gregory Brandt, assistant professor of pediatrics and SIU’s director of pediatric hematology and oncology.

The campers spend the week enjoying typical camping activities: fishing, boating, swimming, horseback riding, hiking, arts and crafts and singing around the campfire.  They also receive special attention from SIU’s pediatric staff, several of whom spend the week providing medical care and getting to know their patients better.  Its Web site is www.siumed.edu/foundation/campcoco.htm.

For more information about the breakfast, contact Sheryl Lloyd, SIU External and Health Affairs, 545-8515 or Knights of Columbus Council Office, 787-2360.
