SIU Med School to Hold Golf Scramble for Camp COCO

Teams are being formed for the annual charity golf scramble this month benefiting the Camp COCO Children’s Cancer Fund at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Springfield.  There are two tee off times at 7:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. shotgun starts on Friday, June 22, at Piper Glen Golf Club, 7112 Piper Glen Dr., Springfield.  The presenting sponsor of the four-person scramble is Complete Care Pharmacy. 

The entry fee of $110 per player for the morning flight and $125 per player for the afternoon flight includes greens fees, golf cart, lunch, on-course beverages and prizes.  Also, the morning flight includes continental breakfast and the afternoon flight includes dinner.  The dinner features silent and live auctions with Sam Madonia, WFMB Sports Radio host, serving as auctioneer.  Sponsorships at various levels of support, including of golf carts in honor or memory of a family member or friend, also are available. 

The COCO Children’s Cancer Fund supports Camp COCO and other projects for young patients being treated for hematological and oncological diseases.  Camp COCO is a summer camp sponsored by SIU School of Medicine where kids with cancer and blood disorders can spend a week enjoying typical camping activities.  The campers receive special attention from SIU’s pediatric staff and health professionals as well as various community volunteers.  The cost of sending one child to camp is approximately $500.  This year’s camp will be held July 8 - 13 at Timber Pointe Outdoor Conference Center on Lake Bloomington.
