Eight Medical School Faculty Promoted

 Academic promotions have been awarded to eight faculty members at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Springfield. The promotions were approved this spring by the SIU Board of Trustees and are effective this month.

[Note – faculty are in Springfield unless noted.]

Six faculty members have been promoted – Ramesh Gupta, Ph.D., from associate professor to professor of biochemistry and molecular biology in Carbondale; Dr. Robert B. McLafferty, from associate professor to professor of vascular surgery; Donald S. Torry, Ph.D., from associate professor to professor of medical microbiology, immunology and cell biology; Steven J. Verhulst, Ph.D., from research associate professor to research professor of statistics and research consulting; Dr. M. Haitham Bakir, from assistant professor to associate professor of pulmonary medicine; and Dr. Janak Koirala, from assistant professor to associate professor of infectious diseases.

Two faculty members have been promoted with tenure – Mary E. Pauza, Ph.D., from assistant professor to associate professor of medical microbiology, immunology and cell biology; and Yin-Yuan Mo, Ph.D., from assistant professor to associate professor of medical microbiology, immunology and cell biology.
