Two faculty members from SIU School of Medicine receive

national honors –

Dr. Alan Felthous, Dr. Alan Felthous portrait professor of psychiatry and medical director of the Chester Mental Health Center, was installed as president of the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law at their annual meeting in Chicago this fall.  He served the last year as president-elect. 

This international organization promotes scientific and educational activities, develops ethical guidelines and educational guidelines and stimulates research for forensic psychiatry, a medical subspecialty focused on areas where psychiatry is applied to legal issues.

Felthous joined the SlU faculty in 1999.  He earned his medical degree at the University of Louisville School of Medicine in Louisville, Ky. (1971) and his bachelor’s degree in zoology at the University of Washington in Seattle (1967).  He is board certified by the American Board of Forensic Psychiatry, the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in general psychiatry and in the subspecialty of forensic pathology and by the National Board of Medical Examiners. 

 

Dr. Jagannathan Srinivasaraghavan, Dr. Jagannathan Srinivasaraghavan portrait professor of psychiatry and medical director of the Choate Mental Health Center in Anna, was named program chair for the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law annual meeting set for October 2007.   He joined the SIU faculty in 1999 and is board certified in psychiatry and forensic psychiatry.   He earned his medical degree at Thanjavur Medical College (1972).
