Two from Southern Illinois University School of Medicine have

received professional honors.

Glen P. Aylward, Ph.D., Glen Aylward, Ph.D., portrait professor of pediatrics and psychiatry and director of developmental and behavioral pediatrics at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine, was elected to a one-year term as president of the Society for Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics (SDBP) at its annual meeting in Providence, R.I., in September.  Aylward is also a specialist at St. John’s Children’s Hospital in Springfield, a joint endeavor of SIU and St. John’s Hospital.

The SDBP is an international organization dedicated to improving the health of infants, children and adolescents through promoting research, teaching and clinical practice in developmental and behavioral pediatrics.

Aylward joined the SIU faculty in 1979.  He earned his doctoral degree at Georgia State University (1979), his master’s at Fairleigh Dickinson University in (1974) and his bachelor’s from Rutgers University (1972).  He is board certified in clinical psychology and in clinical child and adolescent psychology.

Dr. Penny K. Tippy, Dr. Penny Tippy portrait professor of family and community medicine and director of the SIU family practice residency program in Carbondale, was awarded the Rosemary Berkel Crisp Award at the 21st annual Southern Illinois Women’s Health Conference at John A. Logan Community College in Carterville in September.

The award, established in 1997, recognizes an exceptional woman of unselfish character and generous volunteerism who demonstrates great enthusiasm for the people of southern Illinois.

Tippy was named to the SIU faculty in 1982.  She earned her medical degree at the University of Illinois School of Medicine (1974) and her bachelor’s from Knox College in Galesburg (1970).  She is board certified in family practice medicine.
