SIU Med School Sponsors Ethnic Heritage Day for German

Culture

An Ethnic Heritage Day celebration featuring German culture will be held Tuesday, December 11, at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine.  The event will be held noon to 1:30 p.m. in the second floor lobby of the School’s main building at 801 N. Rutledge St., Springfield.

The program includes a short talk about the history of public forestry in Germany and the U.S. by Anna Marie Fuhrig, Ph.D., of Jacksonville, author of Stories of Americans Who Came from Germany: 400 Years of Germans in America.  She also has taught German at several central Illinois colleges.

There also will be cultural displays and artifacts as well as tasting of German foods, some provided by members of the local chapter of DANK, the German American National Congress.

Ethnic Heritage Day celebrations are held regularly to share information about various ethnic cultures.  The events are organized by the SIU Diversity, Multicultural and Minority Affairs office.

For more information, contact Patricia Davis at 545-7243 weekdays.
